about

Even when you can't hear it, you can certainly tell it's there, that little bit of it, leaving trails behind the words she says. It must come from somewhere. The signal is routed through six or eight places you'd never suspect, just around the corner and just around the globe, where a sweaty man in a windowless van could have been liberally applying it, like butter on his marmalade sandwiches, with a putty knife, and some of it might have come through the wire, hiding behind her vowels. But you don't know. You can't know, but you know her, and that little bit of gruffness could not have originated with her. Not her. Never her.

credits

from Right Twice a Day, released October 15, 2012
Includes patches from nucleus-soundlab.com, thelooploft.com and Exode Massive Synthesis. The peculiarities with at least two of the instruments come from an idea mentioned offhand in Reason Wizardry Season One, also from Nucleus, The realities of which spawned the rest of the song, more or less.
